LOSS OF A LANDMARK

September 9, 2000 was a very sad day for all at Big Brothers of South Georgian Bay, United Way and many other businesses operating from the Masonic Lodge Temple Building in Hurontario.

This great historic landmark located in Collingwood was destroyed by fire.  The building has dominated the downtown area since 1890 and was the last three-story structure to survive from the 19th Century.

Against all odds Big Brothers & United Way managed to survive and were “up and running”  within a few days of this unfortunate occurrence with borrowed telephone, fax lines and staff working from home.

Temporary accommodation was obtained at 12 Erie Street, Collingwood and it was not too long until both organizations were back operating at full swing.

The rebuilding of the Temple Building is now in progress and it is our hope to be relocated in the newly built offices in or around the end of March 2002.
